Duduza – MEC of Social Development in Gauteng Morakane Mosupye urged women to teach their children to respect and protect women from a very young age.
She was addressing the crowd gathered outside the Nigel Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday during the second court appearance of the man who allegedly killed the heavily pregnant Samantha Zungu (29).
Zungu was allegedly assaulted with a fire poker for cheating and falling pregnant by her long-term boyfriend and father of her children.
She lost consciousness and was rushed to Pholosong Hospital where she was certified dead on arrival.
Mosupye said if young men were taught from a very young age how to love and protect women, gender-based violence cases would not exist.

“Sadly, we have lost another young woman after so much work has been done to fight the abuse of women and children, especially if we consider the efforts of the annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign.
“Enough is enough! We urge men forums working on the ground to help us fight this,” she said.
She promised to support the family and ensure justice is served.
Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka confirmed that the 33-year-old suspect was, at the time of the incident, out on parole for assaulting his former girlfriend in May.
The deceased’s mother, Margaret Zungu, said over the years she feared the suspect would one day kill her daughter.
“We encouraged her to leave him, but they always got back together,” she said.
