Cable thief sentenced to 10 years

“We are hoping that the sentence will send a strong message against those who are continuing or intended to damage and steal cables,” he said.

Duduza – Mzwakhe Simin Maseteng (26) was sentenced to 10 years’ direct imprisonment by the Nigel Magistrate’s Court recently.
Maseteng was convicted under Sec 3(1)(a)Act of 2015 for tampering, damaging and destroying essential infrastructure.

Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka said the area and many others have seen an increase in cases of cable theft.
“Cable theft is mostly causing unnecessary power outages and in some cases, permanent damage to electricity infrastructure, which frustrates a large number of communities.
“We are hoping that the sentence will send a strong message against those who are continuing or intending to damage and steal cables,” he said.
