Ekurhuleni’s Stru Film Festival celebrates local creatives
Stru Film Festival's annual event gives back to creatives in the City of Ekurhuleni while showcasing local talent through story-telling.
Kwatsaduza – The two-day second annual Stru Film Festival presented by Ekurhuleni Art, Culture and Recreation Forum took place at AMPD Studios Newtown Junction on April 7 and at Rhoo Hlatshwayo Art Centre in Daveyton on April 8.
The forum is focused on telling authentic stories and endorsing local talent.
The first day of the workshop tackled creative writing and directing facilitated by Baba Thabza and Mpho Nyana, while the second day showcased local movies and documentaries.
Sibusiso Mtshali from the Department of Sports Art, Culture and Recreation said, “The forum always delivers amazing work and their work ethic is brilliant.”

Local artists Shepherd the Saxophonist and Black Rivers Poets also performed at the event.
Busi Simelane, from the City of Ekurhuleni Department of Art and Culture, said the standard of the production was amazing and that everyone who attended was amazed by the content, standard and quality of these locally produced films.
The programme was run by Mandla Namo, aka IGNITION TLK.
The forum’s chairperson, Jabu Tabudi, extended his gratitude to the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), City of Ekurhuleni, AMPD Studios Newtown Junction, Department of Sports, Art, Culture and Recreation, Daveyton TV and the production houses that submitted content.
