School burgled and vandalised by criminals
The regular burglaries at the school are a cause for concern.
Kwa-Thema – Masimini Primary School is being targeted by criminals.
The school has been battling with break-ins since February resulting in more than eight criminal cases being opened by the local police.
In February thieves broke into the Grade R classes stealing stationery, toilet doors, taps, a dustbin and chairs.
This was after lawn mowers, taps and security gates were stolen last year in December.
During the latest incident, window frames, kitchen sinks, camera cables, cardboard and stationery were among some of the items stolen at the school premises.
Principal Mbuso Ndlela said that they have been experiencing these break-ins almost every week.
“We feel helpless and unsafe. We have reported the matter to the police but we have not received any help at all. This entire situation is horrific and disruptive to learning.
“Every time something like this happens we have to pause learning so that law enforcement officers can do their work,” explained Ndlela.

It is alleged the intruders broke the palisade fencing at the back to gain entry to the premises. Ndlela added that these criminals hide in the long grass and sometimes use it as a smoking hub during the day.
The school has started to use plastic taps to minimise the break-ins.
“We are pleading with the community to assist us with cleaning and cutting the overgrown grass. We hope that it help to deal with the scourge of crime.
“For the clean-up campaign to be successful we are going to need manpower and equipment,” he added.
