Maths and science made easy for high school learners
Maths and science tutoring classes available.
Tsakani – A+ Students is a programme of teachers dedicated to helping young people in maths and science, held at Tsakane Secondary School.
The programme caters for learners in Grades Eight to matric, focusing mainly on maths and physical sciences.
It was started in January 2015 by Musa Mthombeni and Promise Diphoko at Tholulwazi Secondary School before expanding to Tsakane Secondary School.
“Our vision and mission are to groom and renew the minds of the learners concerning mathematics and science and make them see the subjects as doable.
“We want to see young people developing a love for mathematics and science, and for them to pass on the knowledge to others so that they also realise that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it and make efforts towards achieving it,” explained Diphoko.

He added their goal is to have their own place for the classes.
“The school has limited resources, therefore, we plan on getting a place, adding computer literacy to the programme. Because of the growing demand, it seems it will take some time for technology to be integrated successfully by the Department of Education,” he said.
The classes take place Monday to Thursday from 15:30 to 17:00 and on Sundays from 08:00 to 16:45.
Following Musa’s exit Diphoko is currently running the classes with Nonhlsnhla Mazibuko.
Diphoko holds a higher certificate and is studying toward a bachelor’s degree in education, majoring in maths and physics.
“We are trying to reach all learners and make sure they give their best performance, especially during exams. We teach them strategies because most learners don’t fail because they don’t know what is being asked, but they don’t know how to prepare for exams,” said Diphoko.
They also plan field trips for their learners.
