Fashion show raises awareness about taxi violence
Fashion designers were given a platform to showcase their creative side with their latest designs.
Kwa-Thema – Local fashion initiative eKasi Fashion Week (EFW) held its 15th showcase on Sunday, at the Duduza Rank in Kwa-Thema.
The showcase raised awareness about taxi violence through fashion while also celebrating taxi drivers for their role in the transport industry.
The initiative is the brainchild of Stephen Monoki and Nkosinathi Zwane.
The pair said they wanted to capture authentic South African stories and display their daily realities.
“Designers got a chance to express themselves with precision by creating garments that represented them.
“The show was a huge success and we would like to thank the community for their support and all those who contributed to the success of the event.
“Our upcoming show is going to be held at Constitutional Hill in July.
“We are also working on launching a development modelling academy for aspiring models from the ages of five to 25,” they explained.
The show was all about inclusivity and diversity and the following designers were showcased: Maxelostyle, Exclusivity, Noxysimhle Designs, Nina Zuma, Levels, OWL Designs, Nomaziyane Arts and Crafts, and Drama Queen.

Local designer Mpho Hlophe said collaborations are important and powerful for small businesses and local brands.
“We need each other and together we can all grow from our different spaces.
“In my opinion, we are the generation that must bring change in our own communities though that will take some time.
“However, I am happy with how everything turned out. There was order, I felt safe and we were able to work.
“I also believe in what the founders are trying to achieve with this initiative,” said Hlophe.
