NPO needs funding for transport

Kwa-Thema – Kopano Disable Movement held a fundraising event intending to cover the costs for their vehicle that is currently being repaired.
The fun walk was on Saturday morning, from their clubhouse to Kgaswane Street in Kwa-Thema.
Founder of the NPO Sthembiso Mndebele said their 14-seater Quantum’s engine blew up in early February, leaving them with no mode of transport.
“The repairs to the engine is R42 000. So far, we have managed to pay R20 000 and we are now left with the remaining balance of R28 000 including storage fees.

“Through the walk, we were able to sell 40 tickets at the price of R30 each,” he explained.
The NPO empowers people living with disabilities through skills development programmes.
They are also selling their products to sustain the NPO and assist members who do not have any source of income.
“The car played a vital role within the organisation.
“We were able to transport our members from their homes to the centre, and attend events and meetings at no cost.
“It was also convenient for some of us who are wheelchair-bound.
“At the moment, we are struggling because we do not have transport,” added Mndebele.
The NPO is pleading with the community and local businesses to assist with donations or support their beadwork and handcraft business.
