The Kwa-Thema Sports Confederation will no longer hold its elective congress on Saturday as initially planned.
They will now have their pre-elections workshop on that day, which will be to educate their members about the importance of the body and the responsibilities of its executive.
The elections – the new date for which is yet to be determined – will be when that executive is chosen for the 10 existing positions, including that of the president and two vice-presidents.
The change of plan was announced by the confederation’s interim executive committee in an ordinary meeting held at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Committee member Vincent Hlatshwayo confirmed that he and the chairperson Edward Mtshali consulted with the Ekurhuleni Sports Confederation before making that decision.
The pair was welcomed by the regional confederation’s Benny Mphahlele on their visit to Germiston last Monday.
Mphahlele will conduct the workshop on Saturday, the venue for which is also yet to be confirmed, but the committee room next to the Kwa-Thema Community Hall was earmarked to host the event.
Mtshali said they were given a lot of insight into sports confederations’ functions during their visit, “The information that was given to us was good.
“It was an eye-opener. We appreciate his (Mphahlele) agreeing to come and conduct the workshop because that is going to help our sports people here in Kwa-Thema, so they can understand how important it is to belong to these structures.
“Because if we don’t get workshops, then people will never have the knowledge of how to operate in sport.
“So it’s going to help the Kwa-Thema sports people so there can be a way forward.”
Despite that there were just six members in attendance in this week’s meeting, including the three committee members, Mtshali was still positive, “Sometimes you might have a lot of people but only to find that the people who are working are few.
“When you listen to them (those who were present) speak, the confidence they have, the faith, the belief in themselves show that they are looking forward to reviving this confederation.”
