Kwa-Thema – Learners from Pholong Secondary School participated in a chess tournament hosted at Veritas College on Saturday.
The school participated in the U15, U17 and U19 categories resulting in the U19s walking away with gold medals.
The U19 team of Kamogelo Waleng, Siyabonga Nhlapo, Kwanda Hlatswayo, Thami Maspa, Kgaogelo Mohlala, Thapelo Mashiane and Lesedi Skhosana fought to be crowned as winners of the day.
Mpiyakhe Makuya, Lesego Mahlakwana, Adriano Maifo, Kamogelo Molala, Kamogelo Mdakane, Lehlogonolo Motaung and Kabelo Kguputso from the U17 team walked away with bronze medals.

The U15s Lynette Helder, Bongibuhle Maabu, Samukelo Jiyane, Thabo Radinne, Yolanda Mohlongo, Phomelele Maluleke and Thomas Maimela finished in the fourth position.
Team coach Vivian Malepe said he is proud of the players for putting up a fight and representing the school.
“It was a tight game but my players were not intimidated but fought to the end,” he added.
