Tsakani – Local wrestling club Tsakani Battle Ground bagged three gold and bronze medals at the South African Youth and President Wrestling National Championships in Stellenbosch.
The tournament was hosted by the South African Wrestling Foundation from October 6 to 8.
The club had four representatives:
• Pearl Mkhabela won a gold medal for U10 and another one for the youth category
• Owami Sibeko won a gold medal for U13 and a bronze in the youth category
• Snethemba Chosana took home the bronze medal for the U13 and made it to position eight in the youth category
• Hlobisani Khumalo received a bronze medal and made it to position four for the youth category.
Local wrestlers to represent at national championships
The club said they were proud of the results produced by the wrestlers.
“Our wrestlers have worked hard for this and the results have shown.
“We are proud of every one of them. Unfortunately, we could only take four wrestlers when 10 had qualified but because of funds, we were unable to take everyone.
“Thanks to Gold One Mine, parents and the community, as their assistance made it possible for us to make it to the nationals,” said club coach and founder Mpho Madi.
They have wrapped up the season as their wrestlers prepare for their school examinations.
They are inviting interested individuals to join the club. Training takes place at Faranani Multipurpose Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 15:00 to 17:00.
Any age group and gender are welcome.
Training will run until the end of October and will open again in the first week of December.
