Boxer collects another gold in Malawi

Over 200 sportsmen, with eight boxers from South Africa, competed in the tournament.

Tsakani – Total Success boxer Vuyo Mguni was crowned the winner at the AUSC Region V Youth Games, held in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Over 200 sportsmen, with eight boxers from South Africa, competed in the tournament.

The first gold medal was won by Siseko Teyisi and the second gold was won by local boxer Vuyo. Asemahle Sotwili claimed the third medal.

Silver medals were conferred to Okuhle Mthi and Tshepo Macebele while Zandile Mathebula and Maisy Seimane won bronze medals.

Vuyo won his first match by knocking out his opponent in the first round in under two minutes. He then won his second match on points against Botswana’s Kapinga Otisitswe.

Total Success coach Lwazi Xundu said he is proud of Vuyo for flying the team’s flag high in international games.

“The hard work that we put in is paying off and this is evident as the team succeeds. The win also motivates Vuyo’s teammates to work hard to be able to reach the same milestone,” he added.

Xundu is urging young people who are interested in pursuing boxing as a sport to join them.

They are also encouraging parents and local businessmen to support the team for it to grow to better heights.
