Kwa-Thema Hostel dwellers have services brought to them
Social Development takes services to people
Kwa-Thema – The Gauteng Department of Social Development held a community service blitz on Friday at the Kwa-Thema Hostel.
The blitz was part of the Gauteng Townships Informal Settlements Hostels (TISH) programme.
Different invited stakeholders included the Thabang Xaba Foundation and the Department of Labour.
Hostel dwellers and community members had the opportunity to submit their CVs to different stakeholders. They registered their details with these stakeholders so they may receive help where needed, such as those who needed help with Sassa.
Dumisani Dube said, “I am glad for this day. I was able to go to different tables and ask what I needed to and I’m happy with the responses I received.
Loyiso Ncongo, project manager and youth coordinator intern at the Thabang Xaba Foundation said, “We are helping people with creating and/or updating their CVs.
“We are working with the Department of Labour, so those seeking employment are welcome to leave their CVs with us.”
Langa Mahambi from the labour department said, “We are here to bring services to the hostel dwellers.
“We are helping people with claiming for their UIF, maternity leave, illness, injury on duty benefits and also to lodge complaints.

Ekurhuleni Community Development supervisor Nomthandazo Maphumulo said, “We are working with different NPOs in the community. You need to utilise their services as they are free.”
Maphumulo said all services need to be within reach of the people to avoid them travelling as far as Germiston to get help.
A GDE ECD social worker, Nonhlanhla Hlatshwayo said, “We have a non-centre-based ECD at the hostel, which accommodates 47 children.
“We are currently checking if there is a need for another one.”
