Kwa-Thema Cricket hosts learners for mini-cricket
Twelve schools took part in the mini-cricket festival.
The Kwa-Thema Cricket Hub hosted a Kwa-Thema regional KFC mini-cricket festival on Friday at the hub at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex.
Grade One to Three learners from 12 local primary schools were invited to partake in the festival.
The learners started with a coaching clinic moving from one obstacle to another and then took on each other after having a 30-minute break.
Coach Tebogo Gaduka said, “We are doing this to introduce the cricket basics to the learners with the hope that those who haven’t started playing the sport will fall in love with it.”
Coach Mandla Nkosi said, “We are grateful for the support we have received from schools.
“Our club needs more girls to play in it, and seeing the number of girls here today makes me happy. I hope they will join the club.”
The U14 coach, Zweli Khumalo, said they host such a festival annually.
“We are grateful to Easterns Cricket for the initiative and the community for the support given to the club,” said Khumalo.
A Grade Three learner from Sechaba Primary, Nompumelelo Mlambo (10), said, “I am a cricket player and I enjoy the sport.
“I play as a batter and a bowler. This is not a sport played by men only, everyone can partake.”
