Mamepe Striders to host the first annual Duduza Annual Community Race

The striders have hosted races before but none was over 5km.

Duduza – Mamepe Striders will host their first 5km and 16km Duduza Annual Community Race on April 30 at the Duduza Stadium.

Based in Duduza, the team was formed in 2016 with membership in the whole of Kwatsaduza.

Mamepe chairperson Thabo Moorosi said this would be their first official race approved by the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA).

They’ve had races before, which were 5km and less.

“We are attempting to encourage running in our communities. We have a lot of runners in our area and feel this is the perfect time to attract more runners,” said Moorosi.

He said they are working towards having 42km runs in Ekurhuleni which will help boost the local economy.

“We are starting small, however, we will one day have an ultra-run such as the Soweto Marathon,” he said.

Moorosi said they hoped the youth would join the run and understand what running is about.
