Correctional Services Badminton League games played in Duduza

The league is continuous and results will be released later in the year.

Duduza – Boksburg Correctional Services Club in collaboration with Eyethu Badminton Development Club hosted the Gauteng and Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North-West (LMN) Correctional Services Badminton League games and a coaching clinic at the Duduza Multi-Purpose Centre on Wednesday.

Twenty-five prison warders from four centres, Kgosi Mampuru, Odi, Zonderwater and Boksburg, participated.

Women’s and men’s singles games were played by the officials while they were also coaching and advising the Eyethu players on the sport.

Eyethu coach Bongani Simelane said, “The games were electrifying and our young players got a chance to learn more skills from the veterans who transferred their skills with distinction.”

Boksburg captain Solly Siloana said, “As Gauteng and LMN, we decided to start a league of the two regions to help keep fit for the upcoming national championships, which will take place in 2025.

“Our league games take place monthly and we rotate within branches. It was then our time to host and we then decided to take our games to the Eyethu fields.”

Siloana said he met Simelane in Benoni in February during the All Africa Championships and that’s when he gained an interest in visiting the Eyethu Club.

The scores of the league can only be released in November as the teams are playing continuous games.
