Renovations at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex have started

Phase one of the renovations is underway.

Kwa-Thema – Phase one of the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex refurbishment has commenced.

This came after Ward 77 Clr Thulane Dunjana announced earlier this year that a grant was released to renovate the complex.

On Wednesday, African Reporter visited the site to check on the progress since the project started in March. We found the workers digging the foundation of the guardroom and changing rooms.

The project was to have started in February. Foreman Donald Makhudu said they installed 42 pipes for the stormwater drain and are waiting for more.

Workers on site mix concrete.

“This is what we call blinding. Our reinforcement is ready as we still wait for our blinding to dry. We will then put concrete on top of the reinforcement to help us get a stronger foundation,” said Makhudu.

The site community liaison officer, Refiloe Mashiloane, said: “Though phase one was supposed to be complete in three months it now seems impossible because there is still a lot of work to do and a shortage of workers because some of those who started with the project are now employed in other areas.”

A paved pathway and fencing for the entire complex are among the work yet to be done in phase one.

Dunjana said after the completion of the project, there would be fields for other sporting codes not accommodated by the complex and that there are grounds which will be moved to other spaces in the complex.
