Kwa-Thema’s Dimakatso hosts netball tournament for winter break
“This will give them something to look forward to every day during these holidays."
Kwa-Thema – The community of Tornado held its second friendly netball tournament for U11s, U13s and U15s during the school winter break.
The event organiser, Dimakatso Mapogosha, said she organised the event to keep children entertained during holidays.
In an interview with African Reporter, Mapogosha said the tournament helped to stop children from roaming the streets.
“I organised this tournament so that children could look forward to something every day during the school holidays. It also offered them a chance to show off their sporting talents,” said Mapogosha.
She added she hoped this tournament would help keep the children away from drugs and avoid unwanted teenage pregnancies.
She said her assistant coach and community members were crucial in supporting the children and ensuring the tournament took place.
Mapogosha said they needed sponsors to help with refreshments and food during their games because she believed it would encourage the children.
The tournament winners:
-U11: Jaguars Netball Club
-U13: Brightstars Netball Club
-U15: Jaquars Netball Club.
