Tsakani – Mandlethu Primary School learners were awarded gold medals, trophies, certificates and stationery packs as Maths Olympiad Champions 2023 in Gauteng East District.
The award ceremony was held at Laerskool Christiaan Bayers in Springs on Tuesday. This is a yearly event where learners’ maths skills and abilities are assessed and a competitive mindset is instilled.
The competition starts from the school level, followed by the cluster level, then the district level and lastly provincial level. The top three learners from each level always proceed to the next level.
A Grade Six learner, Lwandle Makwakwa and a Grade Five learner Nondumiso Khoza obtained position one in their grade competitions.

Khoza is also the 2022 provincial champion and she still proves to be unbeaten this year.
Teachers were also recognised for their hard work. As a maths head and trainer, Phindile John was also awarded a gold medal.
The two girls are now proceeding to the provincial level of this competition where they will be representing the Gauteng East District on September 7 at Laerskool Selection Park in Springs.
Mandlethu Primary School acting principal Thembeni Mdluli congratulated the two winners.
