Newly appointed recruits to fight crime in Ekurhuleni
The recruitment of the marshals was part of the Presidential Employment Programme.

Kwatsaduza – The CoE absorbed 1 200 community safety marshals. This news was announced on Tuesday at a passing out ceremony at the OR Tambo Government Precinct.
The recruitment of the marshals is part of the Presidential Employment Programme, and marshals will assist in the fight against lawlessness in the metro.
Community Safety MMC, Clr Sizakele Masuku, told the team to be vigilant for crime and any suspicious activities found as they paraded the streets of Ekurhuleni.
“These men and women will be critical in collecting data and intelligence, which will inform future operations of the EMPD.
“They will also look at other social ills in the communities and act as a bridge between the community and the metro on issues of crime and related matters,” said Masuku.
Masuku said their objective was to create employment aligned with the Presidential Employment Programme.
“We are trying to create a safer Ekurhuleni for everyone living here. A child must feel safe in their community, as must the oldest person in the same vicinity.
“It is now time the communities reclaim their environments from criminals. We must take back our streets from criminals and make them safe again,” she said.
The MMC urged community members to work closely with the new marshals because crime was a societal problem and needed everyone to assist.
“It starts with loving yourself, your family, and your country. If you do that, you cannot stand and do nothing when you see crime rising in your country,” Masuku emphasised.
