Langaville – Local chiefs celebrated Heritage Day at the Mabena Royal Palace in Langaville Ext 7 on Sunday.
Chiefs from different compounds, along with their secretaries, wives and the community enjoyed the day.
Chief Thembinkosi Ngingi of the Hleke Chiefdom said, “We need to know ourselves and we can only do so by knowing our past.”
Ngingi said most people don’t even know why we are called ‘bantu’ and why we have a group called the ‘Ngunis’.
He said that African people need to show ubuntu by sharing. “We also need to pride ourselves on the rich history we have as Africans.”

The programme also included a men’s health talk. Those who attended discussed among themselves how they could keep healthy.
Chief Abram Mabena said men needed to take care of themselves, go to the clinic and get tested for chronic illnesses.
“Those with illnesses need to take their medication. We cannot have people dying or with deteriorating health all because they don’t take their meds,” Mabena said.
On October 14, the chiefs and other community members will be in Thembisa to celebrate their heritage and on October 28 they’ll be in Vezukuhle to visit the king.
