Despite the prevailing problems at the school, including limited resources and facilities, teacher Trevino Johnson said the learners proved that passion and perseverance can lead to greatness.

Kwa-Thema – Lefa-Ifa Secondary School triumphed at the recent Segarona Gauteng Music Competition. They showcased their skills across various disciplines, including the recorder, piano, poetry, public speaking, trumpet, ensemble playing and vocal solos/groups.

Their performances mesmerized the judges and captivated the audience, earning them well-deserved recognition and top honours at the district and provincial levels.

Despite the prevailing problems at the school, including limited resources and facilities, teacher Trevino Johnson said the learners proved that passion and perseverance can lead to greatness.

“Their success is a shining example of the potential within every student, regardless of their circumstances, and a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and the unwavering support of dedicated teachers.

“The accomplishments at the competition not only celebrate their individual achievements but also inspire hope and pride in their school community,” he added.

Behind this remarkable feat lies the dedication and guidance of the Magnet teachers (school-based music department) based at Lefa-Ifa Secondary School.

They also remain active on the SA music scene and help demonstrate their commitment to nurturing talent and creating opportunities for their students to excel.

The teachers, who are also musicians, not only impart knowledge and skills to their learners but also inspire and motivate them to reach for their dreams.

“By nurturing their talents and instilling a love for music, these teachers have played a pivotal role in the students’ achievements.”

“The music programme (Magnet school) has been a beacon of hope for the students, providing them with an avenue for creative expression and escape from their hardships.”
