Healthcare workers awarded for excellence

The ceremony was to honour and appreciate the hard work staff members put out during the year.

Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema Main Clinic hosted its first annual excellent service award ceremony on Friday at the clinic.

The ceremony was to honour and appreciate the hard work staff members put out during the year.

The quality assurance champion, Vuyelwa Mahlangu, said the awards, as her brain child, are to show that the department does evaluate quality and that they do appreciate all the hard work done by the staff members who smile at patients when they enter the gates of the clinic.

“Some patients are not sick, they are just dealing with a lot emotionally and seeing a smile goes a long way as they get to be better even before entering a consultation room,” she said.

The keynote address was given by the Ekurhuleni Health East manager, Nonhlanhla Xaba who dwelled more on the recent ‘I serve with a smile’ provincial campaign launch.

“The province launched this campaign to get us as health workers to smile when serving the patients.

“We are public servants and it is up to us to make sure that we serve the public with diligence. Whether you are a security guard or a cleaner, it doesn’t matter. What matters is the service.”

Xaba also thanked the staff members at the clinic saying they always find the clinic clean when coming for surprise visits and that the staff always serve the public with a smile. The awards were given to the top three or more people in different departments as voted by their colleagues.

There were also the best of the best awards in each department which were chosen by the clinic management.
In the best of the best, they were awarded certificates and trophies. There were also musical items rendered during the programme by some of the members of the staff.
