EMPD crime unit educates community about domestic violence

Officers visited the Skoonplaas and Never Never informal settlements to talk to residents about domestic violence.

EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit officers engaged community members in Skoonplaas and Never Never informal settlements about domestic violence on February 17 and 18.

In Skoonplaas informal settlement, with many people facing domestic challenges, the officers shared information and knowledge surrounding abuse and ways to overcome it.

They underlined how critical it is to stop normalising domestic abuse and to stop treating it as the norm in homes and communities.

The officers proceeded to the Never Never informal settlement to discuss the connection between abusing alcohol and domestic violence.

While the EMPD noted that the majority of domestic abuse complaints arise in informal settlements, the officers will keep interacting with the community in those areas.
