Isinyathelo Esihle held a workshop for teachers

The teachers were urged to treat children well.

Kwa-Thema – The Isinyathelo Esihle Ward 80 Backyard Crèches organisation held an early childhood development (ECD) workshop on Saturday at the Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saint in Kwa-Thema.

The workshop trained teachers and gave them an idea of what is needed and expected in ECD centres.

Organisation chairperson Mxolisi Mtakwende said, “It was also about how to take care of our young ones and teach them to make sure that when they go to school, they have a solid foundation.”

He said children learn through play. That was what they taught teachers to implement with children.

“We wanted to remind them that they are there to groom the learner and make sure that when they go to school, they are ready to make a difference in society,” he said.

At schools, workshops are usually during the first term of the year. Isinyathelo Esihle planned their workshop also during the term because they are now under the Department of Education.

“We also wanted to teach them about our code of conduct, dress code and discipline in our workplace,” he continued.

He said they wanted the teachers to understand that they depend on the children to pay salaries.

“We should take good care of them (children),” he said.

Mtakwende said they also want to bring change to crèches and make them a first choice for parents.

Teachers were encouraged to be punctual to arrive at the centres timeously and advised to return to school, upgrade their knowledge and study further.

“We wish they could grow and maybe one day end up owning their pwn daycares,” he said.

The attendees received certificates of attendance.
