Annual golf day raises funds for Matshidiso LSEN School

Matshidiso LSEN School hosted its fifth annual golf day

Tsakani – Matshidiso LSEN School held a golf day at the Pollak Park Golf Club as a fundraiser for the school on Friday.

The school called on corporations and individuals to sponsor holes at the charity event that seeks to raise funds for the school.

School principal Thapelo Tshetlo said they are happy to have sponsors from various stakeholders that came to assist the school raise funds.

“The school golf committee decided to do our fifth annual golf day to raise funds to refurbish our classes. Before Covid-19, we were successful in raising funds through our golf day events. We raised money for transport and autism classes,” said Tshetlo.

Tshetlo added that they charged each person R1 000 to participate in the golf day.

”We expected 80 players to participate in our golf day, but by grace, we exceeded the number. The turnout was amazing, and we are grateful for the public’s participation,” said Tshetlo.

Golfer of the day, Juke Maphunye.

Tshetlo said the money raised would assist the school.

“We do not have any classes strictly for learners with profound intellectual challenges. Instead, they are placed in various classes according to their age.

“We would like to refurbish some of our classes for them to receive appropriate curriculum. We need art materials and other teaching objects such as chats, calendars and coloured notice boards. We need basic activities of daily living, such as devices to assist with dressing, bathing, eating and feeding.

“The school also needs physical educational tools, such as hula hoops, beach balls, bean bags, and other gross motion assist objects,” said occupational therapist Samkelisiwe Mthethwa.

Tshetlo said the bigger picture is to cater for their learners’ needs.

“In the end, we want our school to meet all our learners’ basic needs, and such initiatives help us reach our goal,” he said.
