Local club hopes to bring home three Gauteng sports awards
The club has been nominated for disabled sports team of the year alongside Team Illusion (figure skating) and Gauteng Lions Cricket (cricket).
Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema Disabled Sports Club stands to win big in the upcoming Gauteng Sports Awards.
On October 31, the MEC for Education, Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Matome Chiloane announced the nominees at Emirates Airlines Park (previously known as Ellis Park Stadium).
Collen Mahlalela, from the club, is up for the Disabled Sportsman of the Year award, alongside Colen Venter (cricket) and Arno Kraff (javelin and discus).
Sphesihle Mabena (para athletics, javelin) was nominated in the Most Promising Athlete of the Year category.
The club has been nominated for disabled sports team of the year alongside Team Illusion (figure skating) and Gauteng Lions Cricket (cricket).
“We hope to bring back all the awards.
“This is testament to the hard work that our athletes put in and the community that is behind us,” said Aubrey Mathibela, the club founder and coach.
The Gauteng Sports Awards will take place on November 24.
