SAPS nab man with loaded firearm at car wash

The man was also found with law enforcement apparel.

A 41-year-old was arrested at a car wash on Springs West Road on Monday for having an unlicensed firearm, live ammunition and suspected stolen property.

According to Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the man was traced during an intelligence-driven operation with the Springs crime prevention wardens in Tsakani after they received a tip-off that he was carrying a firearm.

“When the police arrived at the given address, the man was not there, so they proceeded to the car wash, where they found him sitting with his friends.

“Upon searching him, they found a black flywheel loaded with five rounds of live ammunition in his possession,” said Sekgobela.

Sekgobela said the police arrested the man and drove him to the address in Tsakani, where they searched and found a Gauteng traffic warden reflector jacket and a SAPS raincoat.

He was arrested and detained at the Springs Police Station.

Ekurhuleni SAPS district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, commended the officers for their swift response in securing the arrest and addressing the increase of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Ekurhuleni.
