Maths learners awarded for excellence
Gauteng took the spotlight at the Institute of Mathematics (SA) national awards ceremony on November 23, with standout achievements from learners like Ofentse Motshegwa, who scored a top 95%, and Kgothatso Ramohlala, who earned three prestigious awards.
Springs – Gauteng dominated when the Institute of Mathematics (SA) held its national awards ceremony on November 23 at the Springs Civic Centre.
IM is a group of local private citizens who believe mathematics is an enabler to a safe and prosperous community.
“We recognise that the availability of a strong maths intervention is limited in most communities, leaving our youth poorly equipped to either enter the world of work or go to a FET.
“Instead of bemoaning it, we banded together and registered an NPO in 2011 to supplement the mathematics of our country,” explained Ntsane Masiloane, the organisation’s founder.
At the event, Kgothatso Ramohlala from Duduza scooped three awards -for the most committed learner, most improved learner and top three nationally with an 81% average.
Samantha Shilabe was second nationally, and Thobile Shongwe received a bursary for 2025.
Ofentse Motshegwa obtained the top spot with a 95% average. The organisation received sponsorship from Joy Global (Africa) since 2020, and Meat Plus since 2023.
