Celebrating the life of a committed educator and community advocate
Beloved educator and community pillar Estina Sibongile ‘Mamncane’ Phooko, who dedicated her life to teaching and service in Kwa-Thema, passed away on April 11 at the age of 74.
Deceased: Estina Sibongile ‘Mamncane’ Phooko was born November 17, 1950 and died on April 11.
Community: She attended Kristo iNkosi Primary School, then Tlakula High School and furthered her studies at the Emadadeni Teachers College, where she obtained her Primary Teachers Course (PTC).
She started her teaching career at Muzomusha Primary School but was released from employment due to medical reasons.
Phooko was part of the Retired Teachers’ Association in Kwa-Thema, the Ratanang Elders’ Group and a member of Unity is Strength at the Roman Catholic Church.
Family: She is survived by her only sister, Sizakele; her niece, Delisile; her grandchildren Phuthile, Tshepang, Neo, Thando and Khothatso; and great-grandchildren Siyanda, Amo, Katlego and Tshidiso.
Funeral: The service will be at 07:00 at the Kristo iNkosi Roman Catholic Church, Kwa-Thema.
