CoE warns residents to be vigilant as temperatures drop

Cold alert! Stay warm safely. Don’t leave heaters and candles unattended.

As a bitter cold front grips Gauteng, the CoE’s DEMS urges residents to exercise extreme caution when using heating devices.

The South African Weather Services predicts that temperatures will likely drop significantly, increasing the risk of fires caused by unsafe heating practices.

DEMS spokesperson Eric Maloka warns the public never to leave heat sources unattended. This includes electrical heaters, braziers (izimbawula), paraffin stoves and candles.

He urges residents to use all heating devices responsibly and to plan ahead to stay safe and warm. Fire stations across Ekurhuleni’s three regions remain fully operational and ready to respond to emergencies.

In case of an emergency, call 011 458 0911 (standard rates), 112 (free from any cellphone), or use the Gauteng e-Panic app.
Stay warm, stay safe and help prevent fire-related tragedies during the cold spell.
