Detective’s work leads to life sentence for 33-year-old rapist

A 33-year-old Kwa-Thema man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his grandmother, following a thorough investigation by Detective Sergeant Trevor Nkuna.

Kwa-Thema – Thorough investigations by Detective Sergeant Trevor Nkuna have led to the successful conviction and life sentence of a 33-year-old man for the rape of his grandmother.

According to Ekurhuleni SAPS District spokesperson, Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the incident occurred in August 2024.

“The victim and the accused lived on the same property, although the accused stayed in the outside room. On August 26, around 14:00, the grandmother was sitting on her bed when her grandson entered, pulled her to the floor, assaulted her with his fists and raped her repeatedly,” explained Sekgobela.

The assault was interrupted by another grandson who entered the room and found the suspect. A rape case was opened at Kwa-Thema SAPS and assigned to Sergeant Nkuna, who ensured the accused was denied bail and remained in custody throughout the trial.

On July 7, the Springs Regional Court found the man guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, praised Sergeant Nkuna for his dedication to justice.

“She applauded his commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the community and ensuring justice is served,” said Sekgobela.
