Kwa-Thema SDA Church hosts career expo to guide high school learners toward university and careers

With professionals and tertiary institutions on site, learners in grades 10 to 12 are urged to attend for subject and university application guidance.

The Kwa-Thema Seventh-Day Adventist Church will host a career expo and guidance session on Sunday. The event will expose high school learners in Kwa-Thema, Tsakane, Duduza and the surrounding areas to various careers, such as medicine, accountancy and engineering, to name a few.

This will be the third instalment of the initiative, the first having taken place in 2022. It was inspired by a belief that Christian faith should also translate into practicality. Some invited professionals are young people from Kwa-Thema and neighbouring communities, making them relatable and reachable.

The initiative is led by the church’s education wing, headed by Nomfundo Mkotywa, who grew up and attended school in Kwa-Thema.

“In addition to the professionals we’ve invited, we have also invited tertiary institutions to assist learners in understanding university admission requirements. Because of their in-depth understanding of the application process, learners are sure to receive the best support possible.

“As most universities will have opened for applications, we urge high school learners to attend, especially those in grades 11 and 12. Advice will also be given on subject choices for Grade 10,” explained Mkotywa.

The career expo will be held at the Kwa-Thema Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 6024 Kodisang Street, Kwa-Thema, from 09:00 to 14:00.
