Mandela Day project transforms top-performing Kwa-Thema school
The Khalipha Foundation and partners marked Mandela Day by helping refurbish a top-performing school in Kwa-Thema.
Kwa-Thema – In a display of community spirit and dedication to education, the Khalipha Foundation, in partnership with the Lighthouse Community Centre Salt & Light Youth Salt, the Ekurhuleni Department of Social Development and Naledi Trading (Pty) Ltd recently spearheaded a Mandela Day initiative to transform Lefa Ifa Secondary
School.
The school has risen from a 53% pass rate in 2022 to an impressive 91.1% in 2024, making it number one in Kwa-Thema.
Under the leadership of principal Dr Disekeletso Saboshego, the school has achieved remarkable academic success, including being the most improved school in the Gauteng East district for two consecutive years.
Despite this success, it still faces infrastructure challenges. On July 18, the Khalipha Foundation and its partners came together to kick-start the transformation process, painting the school and marking the beginning of a brighter future.
Saboshego’s vision for a consumer studies programme and consumer centre will further empower learners. The foundation is now calling on like-minded organisations and individuals to partner with them in completing the refurbishment and supporting the school’s educational programmes.
