Palm Springs car guards take action to clean up dirty parking lot

Car guards at Palm Springs Shopping Centre cleaned the parking lot themselves after complaints from shoppers. They say a cleaner space helps protect their livelihood.

Car guards at Palm Springs Shopping Centre took matters into their own hands and cleaned the parking area after ongoing complaints from shoppers.

According to local resident Robert Moketsi, he saw the car guards busy cleaning the area early on the morning of July 24.

When he asked them what was going on, they told him they were tired of the dirty and neglected parking space.

“One of the car guards told me the mess affects their work, especially since they also offer car-washing services in the parking lot,” said Moketsi.

He added that all the car guards worked together to clean every section of the parking area.

“They brought their own tools, removed weeds, and emptied dustbins. Afterward, the place looked like the old Springs town I remember. I really applaud them for the great work they did,” Moketsi said.

Car guard Veli Mhlanga explained that several shoppers had complained about the poor condition of the parking lot and said they would not return to the centre because of it.

“This is our livelihood,” said Mhlanga. “If shoppers stop coming, it affects our income.”

He added that with the number of car guards stationed at the centre, it is possible to keep the parking lot clean, but they would appreciate assistance from the community.

“We would really appreciate any help to maintain the cleanliness of the parking lot,” he said.
