Local woman brings warmth to schoolchildren this winter

As winter chills set in, one woman’s breakfast table is bringing warmth and hope to local schoolchildren—find out how Tsakani-Gugu Mdhluli is making a difference.

Tsakani – Gugu Mdhuli is keeping little tummies warm and full as learners return to school this winter. The Esibayeni Foundation set up a breakfast table outside her home to feed children as they make their way to school.

“We started on July 22, when schools reopened. It was meant to be for one week, but we have had such a positive response that we have decided to go on for another week until August 1,” she explained.

The breakfast spread included scrambled eggs, soup, bread, cereal and porridge.

Through the programme, Mdhluli has also collected school shoes, sanitary pads, and book bags to donate to those who need them.

“We will identify the children who need these goodies as they visit each morning.

“I want these children to look forward to getting up and going to school each morning, knowing that breakfast is served.

“We sing and dance. We just want to start their day right,” she added.
