Madaglory celebrates win at the Basadi in Music Awards, calling for greater recognition of women in reggae

Madaglory has just been crowned Reggae Artist of the Year at the Basadi in Music Awards 2025. Her win is more than a trophy, it’s a powerful step forward for women in reggae and a reminder that passion and persistence can open doors.

Tsakani – Madaglory scooped the reggae artist of the year award at the recent Basadi in Music Awards 2025.

“I feel super excited and am grateful to everyone who voted for me. I hope this award opens doors for me because reggae is underrated in Mzansi, especially for women.

“I pray that they take us seriously as reggae artists. We just do what we love, like other female artists in other genres,” she said after her win.

Mpumalanga-born Madaglory plays reggae roots and dub. She explained that dub is a genre that emerged in the late 1960s, introducing a style of remixing and reshaping existing recordings.

Madaglory started performing as a DJ in 2014, showcasing her skills at reggae sessions whenever she could, and later started to make a living from it.

The Basadi in Music Awards 2025 were held in Braamfontein on August 1 and 2.
