Nomndayi’s Netball Festival celebrates Women’s Month with record participation and thrilling wins

In a spirited celebration of Women’s Day, Nomndayi’s Netball Festival at Kwa-Thema Sports Complex saw record participation and fierce competition.

Nomndayi hosted a vibrant Netball Festival at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex in celebration of Women’s Day last Saturday.

The event aimed to honour women while promoting sports development in the community.

Each participating team received a full kit and a ball, reinforcing the commitment to nurturing young talent and ensuring that every child can play, regardless of their background.

While the event may not yet be at the point where every player can be equipped with a pair of proper netball shoes, the organisers said that they are making steady progress.

Last year, the festival featured six teams in the U15 and U19 categories. This year, it hosted 10 U15 teams and eight U19 teams, showing clear growth and increased interest.

The organisers hope to attract even more teams next year. Exciting matches filled the weekend as teams competed for the top spot.

In the U19 category, Ulinda Netball Club edged out defending champions The Wings by one point, 7-6, to claim the title.

In the U15 category, Mighty Titans were crowned champions after defeating VV Netball Club 21-6. Nomndayi remains committed to empowering young players and fostering a strong netball culture in Kwa-Thema.
