James Nkosi Primary sparks career dreams on dress-up day
James Nkosi Primary School hosted a vibrant Career Dress-Up Day, exposing learners to diverse professions — from law to space science — while inspiring future dreams and academic ambition.
Duduza – James Nkosi Primary School recently held a Career Dress-Up Day as part of the Life Orientation curriculum, where learners are taught about different career options. The day aimed to prepare learners for their future careers.
“It also served as an opportunity to expose learners to scarce skills and careers they may have never encountered before, such as astronauts and astrophysicists, broadening their horizons and encouraging them to dream beyond the ordinary.
“The learners’ role was to conduct detailed research about their chosen careers and then make presentations of their findings,” explained senior phase departmental head, Thembi Khanyile.
The event featured nine guest speakers from different career fields who presented on their careers, requirements, duration of study, work environments, and more.

“The speakers’ role included motivating the learners and helping them see the value of education. Our learners had the chance to feel like professionals in their chosen fields. Their dress code and presentations contributed to making the day a success,” added Khanyile.
The event received support and sponsorship from MNS Attorneys. The firm also brought along candidate attorneys to motivate the learners by introducing them to various fields within the legal profession.
Their presence aimed to inspire learners to consider careers in law and to understand the role of education in achieving their goals.
Educators and staff members worked together to make the day memorable. They prepared meals, dressed in academic regalia, and embraced a formal dress theme, creating an atmosphere that celebrated learning, ambition, and academic excellence.
“What made our event a success was the strong collaboration among educators and staff, all committed to making the experience as real and impactful as possible.
“Here, we do not do things just for the sake of compliance; we apply our minds fully. It is either we do it with purpose, or we do not do it at all,” said Khanyile.
“Our event was truly spectacular and perfect. By the grace of God, we were blessed with clear and conducive weather conditions that allowed everything to run smoothly.
“Our greatest wish is to one day have our own school hall, a space where we can continue to host meaningful events and inspire our learners in a setting they can call their own.”
Khanyile concluded by thanking MNS Attorneys for supporting the school, even during academic awards.
