Tsakani– Ndumiso Nkosi, founder of You Are Important Road Safety with the Peddy Family, recently hosted a ‘Fun With a Purpose’ event at Sindane Park in Tsakani. The purpose of the event was to teach children about road safety.

“The event aims to raise awareness, as many crashes and fatalities in the township often go unreported. A car just dumps a child in the township, and the community deals with the motorist instead of reporting the matter,” explained Nkosi.

“Teaching children about safety at a young age helps them become responsible citizens. We present the topic in a fun and interactive way.”

The event featured jumping castles, safety banners, bicycles, road tracks, face painting, and other interactive activities, including the Peddy Family.

Nkosi mentioned they designed the Peddy Family from from the footprint of their daughter, Langa, and derived the name from ‘pedestrian.’

“The family is also based on the traffic lights, which are eye-catching and educational. Mamma Peddy is yellow, Pappa is red, and Peddy is green,” he said.

He said one of their goals is to teach children to remind their parents to obey traffic signals.

“We focus most of our energy on educating the children,” he added.
