Man wanted by police in connection with Rustenburg rape case arrested in Tsakani

A 27-year-old man was re-arrested after he fled from police custody in Rustenburg.

TSAKANE – A man wanted in connection with a case of rape in Boitekong Section in Rustenburg was re-arrested on Tuesday by members of the EMPD following a tip-off from the community.
The 27-year-old suspect fled from police custody while receiving treatment in hospital.
EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said the man was arrested while selling vegetables along Sabelo Street in Ext 12.
Members of the EMPD were working together with the SAPS detective section. The EMPD crime-fighting unit gathered information about the suspect’s whereabouts.

“He was spotted by the officers and when he realised that police were onto him he attempted to flee on foot leaving his vegetable trolley. Members gave chase and the suspect was cornered and handcuffed,” she explained.
He was detained at Tsakani police station where he will be transported by police to face the full might of the law in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court.
Thepa added that the EMPD applauds members of the community for their partnership as they assist in the arrests of lawbreakers, especially where serious crimes have been committed.
