Kwa-Thema police have opened an inquest docket following the death of an eight-month-old boy who was found unresponsive after his mother had left him in the care of his 16-year-old sibling.

Kwa-Thema – Kwa-Thema police have opened an inquest docket following the death of an eight-month-old baby boy who was found unresponsive at a home on Khuzwayo Street in Kwa-Thema on June 21.

It is alleged that the child’s mother left the infant in the care of her 16-year-old first-born child while the baby was asleep.

According to Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, at about 11:30 the mother phoned her eldest child to check on the baby.

“She was informed that the child was not responsive. She returned home and found that the child was not breathing,” said Sekgobela.
