Three people die, one critically injured after vehicle rolls on R23 near Heidelberg
Three passengers lost their lives and the driver was left critically injured after a light motor vehicle allegedly lost control and rolled several times on the R23 near Heidelberg on July 13. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
Three people were killed and one person was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash on the R23 (Heidelberg Road) on July 13. The crash occurred on the southbound carriageway of the R23, before the R550 intersection outside Tsakani.
According to the EMPD, a light motor vehicle carrying four occupants allegedly lost control and rolled several times in the roadway median.
Three passengers, including two men and one woman, were fatally injured in the crash and were declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
The driver, an adult male, sustained critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The EMPD said all four occupants were ejected from the hatchback as it rolled repeatedly before coming to a standstill.
The severity of the incident led to the temporary closure of the northbound carriageway of the R23 while emergency services attended the scene and investigators carried out their work.
The bodies of the deceased were later handed over to forensic pathology services for further examination and processing.
EMPD officers have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
