Latest stats reveal crime trends in Kwatsaduza

Kwatsaduza – The first quarter crime statistics were released on August 28, reflecting crimes reported to SAPS from April to June this year.

The full stats for Duduza, Kwa-Thema and Tsakani are as follows and are compared to the same time period as the previous year:

Duduza
Contact crimes (crimes against a person)
• Murder decreased from 14 cases the previous year to seven.
• Sexual offences decreased from 14 to nine.
• Attempted murder decreased from five to three.
• Assault GBH increased from 47 to 58.
• Common assault increased from 39 to 58.
• Common robbery increased from five to 10.
• Robbery with aggravating circumstances decreased from 22 to 17.
Total contact crimes increased from 146 to 162.

Sexual offences
• Rape decreased from 11 cases the previous year to nine.
• Sexual assault increased from three to none.
• Attempted sexual offences remained the same with no cases reported.
• Contact sexual offences remained the same with no cases reported.

Some subcategories of aggravated robbery
• Carjacking decreased from five cases the previous year to four.
• Robbery at residential premises decreased from six to two.
• Robbery at non-residential premises remained the same with two cases.
• Trio crime decreased from 13 to 8.
• Robbery of cash-in-transit vehicle remained the same with no cases were reported.
• Bank robbery remained the same with no cases were reported.
• Truck hijacking decreased from two to none.

• Arson decreased from one case the previous year to none.
• Malicious damage to property increased from 21 to 34.

• Burglary at non-residential premises increased from five cases the previous year to 10.
• Burglary at residential premises increased from 24 to 34.
• Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle increased from two to five.
• Theft out of or from motor vehicle increased from eight to 11.
• Stock theft decreased from two to one.
Total property-related crimes increased from 41 to 61.

Other serious crimes
• All theft not mentioned elsewhere increased from 20 cases the previous year to 41.
• Commercial crime increased from eight to 19.
• Shoplifting decreased from two to one.
Total other serious crimes increased from 30 to 61.
Total 17 community reported serious crimes increased from 239 to 318.

Crime detected as a result of police action
• Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition decreased from three cases the previous year to one.
• Drug-related crime increased from 83 to 105.
• Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs increased from five to 10.
• Sexual offences detected as a result of police remained the same with no cases reported.
Total crime detected as a result of police action increased from 91 to 116.
• Kidnapping decreased from five cases the previous year to four.

• Murder decreased from nine cases the previous year to four.
• Sexual offences decreased from 19 to nine.
• Attempted murder decreased from six to five.

• Common assault increased from 34 to 46.

• Robbery with aggravating circumstances increased from 49 to 51.

• Shoplifting remained the same with five cases.

The local police station featured on the provincial top 30 list in position 21 for arson.

• Common assault decreased from 142 to 105.
• Common robbery decreased from 13 to eight.
• Robbery with aggravating circumstances decreased from 114 to 62.
Total contact crimes decreased from 410 to 300.

• Rape remained the same with 21 cases reported.
• Sexual assault decreased from four to three.
• Attempted sexual offences decreased from one case to none.
• Contact sexual offences increased from no cases to one.
