Mother arrested after child found wandering in the street
Young mother arrested for neglecting her child.
Tsakani – A 22-year-old woman was arrested on Monday morning for neglecting her one-year-old daughter.
The suspect left the child unattended over the weekend.
The minor was found roaming the streets alone on Sunday afternoon and concerned residents took her to the police station.
Tsakani police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu said the parents did not come looking for the child or report her missing.
“The mother only showed up on Monday morning,” she explained.
Mngomezulu added that they are appealing to parents to look after their children.
“Always know their whereabouts especially now that it is the holidays and ensure that they are under adult supervision,” she added.
Police are urging parents to always monitor their children when they go swimming and discourage them from swimming in dams and streams.
