VIDEO: Kwa-Thema march moves through informal settlement

Marchers reached the Marikana informal settlement, where they called for the closure of shops owned by foreign nationals before police intervened.

The March and March demonstration has gained momentum in Kwa-Thema as hundreds of people have joined the gathering.

As reported earlier by the African Reporter, residents converged at the Ndaba Tree this morning ahead of the planned demonstration.

Once the organisers arrived, the group proceeded along Vlakfontein Road towards the Marikana informal settlement.

The organisers have not disclosed the official route for the march. Upon reaching the settlement, participants wanted to close shops owned by foreign nationals.

Law enforcement intervened and requested that the shop owners close their businesses. The group is reportedly heading to other foreign-owned shops in the area before proceeding to the Kwa-Thema Hostel.

The situation remains peaceful.
