Jealous Down crowned champions as Sidwell Junior Tournament promotes drug-free lifestyles in Tsakane
The anti-drug football tournament gave young players a safe space to stay active during the school holidays while promoting discipline and positive choices.
Tsakane – The Sidwell Junior Tournament, under the theme ‘Play Away From Drugs’, saw Jealous Down walk away as champions across all divisions.
The recently concluded tournament took place at the Langaville Sports Ground. Seven teams successfully participated in the tournament.
The tournament organiser, Sidwell Chiloane, explained the significance of organising the tournament.
“Many children come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and having them unoccupied during school holidays is a huge risk.
“Some fall into the trap of experiencing new things which may lead to substance use and criminal activities. Township soccer tournaments were designed to end that,” he said.
Apart from soccer, Chiloane emphasised that as local coaches, they have a common goal: to combat bad decisions and unjustifiable behaviour at a young age.
He mentioned that parents have demonstrated an understanding towards the mission by bringing their kids and rendering endless support.
Chiloane expressed his thanks towards all the participating teams, saying he appreciates the support.
“Such initiatives build the community and revive the dreams of young players.

“The aim is to build strong and disciplined players who will one day make a name for themselves in the soccer scene,” he added.
He congratulated Jealous Down coach Ayabonga ‘Jobe’ Nxumalo for performing well through the tournament across all divisions.
