Tsakani – What started as a podcast has evolved into a powerful platform dedicated to discovering, promoting and empowering South Africa’s independent artists.

Unplugged and Unreleased was founded by two individuals, Nkosinathi Masango and Anele Mbele from Langaville.

The platform has grown beyond interviews and live performances into a creative ecosystem connecting musicians, content creators, media personalities, brands and communities, while giving emerging talent a stage to showcase their craft.

The platform has become a launchpad for artists who often struggle to secure exposure through mainstream media, proving that success is not solely dependent on major record labels but on having access to the right opportunities.

“We are proving that you don’t need a major label to be seen. You need the right platform,” said Masango.

“Every episode provides artists with an opportunity to share their personal journeys, perform their music and connect with audiences they may never have reached otherwise.”

Beyond entertainment, the platform is helping shape the future of South Africa’s independent music industry by creating meaningful opportunities for creatives both in front of and behind the camera.

Its founders believe the country’s independent music sector is filled with extraordinary talent, but many artists continue to face significant barriers to recognition due to limited access to media platforms, funding and industry networks.

As a result, platforms such as Unplugged and Unreleased are becoming increasingly important in bridging the gap between emerging artists and wider audiences.

One of the platform’s greatest achievements has been its commitment to sustainability.

Every episode, production, marketing campaign and artist feature has been funded by the founders themselves, who have invested their own time, finances and energy to keep the vision alive.

“We have funded every production from our own pockets because we genuinely believe South African talent deserves a stage,” he added.

Despite the financial challenges, the team has remained committed to producing high-quality content and creating opportunities for artists who might otherwise go unnoticed.

Looking ahead, Unplugged and Unreleased hopes to secure sponsorships and strategic brand partnerships that will allow the platform to expand its reach and increase its impact.

The founders believe these partnerships represent far more than financial support. They would enable better production quality, broader marketing campaigns, increased artist exposure and more opportunities for the next generation of South African creatives.
