Springs learners to experience FNB Art Fair through GAPS excursion

The excursion will give learners a chance to explore contemporary art and experience a professional art space beyond the classroom.

Springs learners are among a group who will experience the exclusive FNB Art Fair school excursion at the Sandton Convention Centre on September 4.

Organised by the Gauteng Arts for Public Schools (GAPS), the excursion brings together young artists from different school districts, including Gauteng East and Johannesburg East.

The group will include learners from East Rand School of the Art, Buckingham Academy, Theo Twala Primary School, Endicott Primary School and Sakelwe Primary School.

“Through the generous support of FNB Art Joburg, learners from participating under-resourced public schools in the GAPS programme have been awarded complimentary tickets to attend the art fair.

This partnership continues to create meaningful opportunities for learners who may otherwise have limited access to professional art spaces, galleries and contemporary artworks,” said GAPS founder Nyeleti Majuba.

The excursion offers learners the opportunity to experience a wide range of artworks, artistic styles, materials and techniques while engaging with the work of established and emerging artists.

For many learners, this will be their first opportunity to visit a major contemporary art fair and experience art beyond the classroom.

“GAPS believes that every learner should have access to quality arts education and cultural experiences, regardless of the resources available at their school.

“These experiences inspire learners to see themselves as artists, creatives and future contributors to the cultural and creative industries,” Majuba said.
