Government Employee Pension Fund members encouraged to update personal information

The GEPF asks its members and pensioners to keep their records and personal information updated in case of death.

The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) encourages all members and pensioners to regularly update their personal information and review their beneficiary nomination forms to ensure that their records remain accurate and up to date.

GEPF stated that life circumstances such as changes in marital status, the birth of children and the loss of loved ones occur throughout our lives. Members may also relocate and change their contact details.

GEPF added that it is important that members update their personal details and circumstances with the Fund to ensure that records accurately reflect their current circumstances.

“Maintaining accurate records is essential for the efficient administration of pension benefits and effective communication between the Fund and its members.

“Updated contact details enable the GEPF to communicate important information, process benefit claims more efficiently, and reduce unnecessary delays,” said GEPF.

GEPF explained that keeping beneficiary nominations up to date helps provide guidance to the Fund in the event of a member’s death.

While the allocation of death benefits is governed by the GEPF’s rules and applicable legislation, an updated nomination form assists the Fund in identifying beneficiaries and understanding the member’s preferences.

Members who fail to update their personal information and beneficiary nominations may expose themselves and their families to several challenges, including:

  • Delays in the processing and payment of benefits
  • Important correspondence not reaching the member due to outdated contact details
  • Difficulties in locating beneficiaries when benefits become payable
  • Prolonged investigations to identify dependants and beneficiaries
  • Increased emotional and administrative burdens on grieving family members
  • The possibility that beneficiary nominations no longer reflect the member’s current family circumstances

Members can obtain the Personal Particulars form (Z864) and Nomination of Beneficiaries form (WP1002) and submit them using any of the following channels:

  • Their employer’s Human Resources office
  • GEPF regional and satellite offices and other service points
  • The GEPF website at www.gepf.co.za for relevant forms and information
  • The GEPF Client Service App
GEPF shared that before submitting updates, members are encouraged to ensure that all information provided is accurate, complete, and supported by the required documentation.

“By keeping their personal information and beneficiary nominations up to date, members help the GEPF administer benefits efficiently and reduce the likelihood of unnecessary delays and administrative challenges for their loved ones during difficult times,” said GEPF.
