Nokuzola Ziqubu remembered for her love for family, patients and community

Local nurse Nokuzola Ziqubu leaves a legacy to be remembered by her family, community and the nursing fraternity.

Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema community and the nursing fraternity bid farewell to Nokuzola Goodness Ziqubu (60), a dedicated professional nurse, loving mother, doting grandmother, caring sister, and true community helper.

Born on February 21, 1966, Ziqubu answered a calling that few can carry with such grace.

Ziqubu’s granddaughter, Matshediso Qobolo, shared that her grandmother chose the noble profession of nursing, not just as a career, but as a life mission.

Qobolo said that in her dark blue uniform and maroon epaulettes, Ziqubu served with dignity, discipline, and deep compassion.

“To her patients, she was more than a nurse; she was comfort in pain, a calm voice in fear, and a healing hand. To her colleagues, she was a sister in the truest sense, supportive, experienced, and always willing to teach and guide.

“At home, her greatest joy was her family. As a mother, she was the pillar of strength – nurturing, praying, and providing with unconditional love,” she said.

The granddaughter said that as a grandmother, Ziqubu’s face lit up with warmth and pride as she poured her wisdom and gentle love into the next generation. As a sister, she was a confidante, a protector, and a friend you could count on through every season of life.

Qobolo noted that beyond the clinic walls, Ziqubu helped the community in every sense of the word.

Whether it was offering health advice in the street, supporting a grieving neighbour, or simply showing up with a bouquet and a smile, Ziqubu lived for others. She believed service didn’t end when the shift did.

She departs this world on October 9, leaving behind a legacy that cannot be measured in years, but in lives touched, comfort given, and love shared.

Her granddaughter said the bouquet of lilies Ziqubu held in her last picture is symbolic; she gave beauty, even in difficult times.

“She will be deeply missed, but her compassion, her laughter, and her spirit of ubuntu will live on in all of us. Lala ngoxolo, Mama. Rest in Peace, Sister Ziqubu. Your duty is done,” added Qobolo.

Her funeral service will be held on October 17 from 09:00 to 11:00 at Kwa-Thema Community Hall.
